What to Wear In New York In Summer

I just came back from a long weekend in New York. I spent a few days on Long Island visiting family and one day in the city. My family and I traveled up to New York for my cousin’s bridal shower. We also chose to visit New York City for a day and watch a Broadway play. I am sharing what to wear in New York in summer because it can be tricky to decide what to pack for a trip to the Big Apple!

Creating a packing list helped me narrow down my outfits before my trip. Obviously, this is not a regular packing list filled with ALL of the essentials, but rather a curated packing list just focusing on outfit ideas. You still need to remember to pack your skin care, makeup, and hair essentials in addition to clothing!

This NYC packing list is meant for a woman who wants to pack light, airy, feminine, and neutral pieces with her. I’ve included a mix of beige and light pink tones in this summer pack list for New York as well as a dash of floral prints! AlvaQ Women Summer Crewneck Cut Out Dresses Casual Puff Sleeve Swing A Line Short Mini Dress

DRESS | SANDALS | BAG

While in New York, I wore this green puff sleeve mini dress for a Sunday afternoon brunch. We visited a home on Long Island and I decided to wear this new Amazon dress for the occasion. The dress has a soft and lightweight material which made it ideal for a warm New York afternoon. Of course, I also love this minty green shade! The dress itself is under $40 and comes in 8 different colors.

DRESS | SANDALS | BAG

For my cousin’s bridal shower I chose to wear this pink and red floral midi dress from Amazon. This dress felt light and airy for a warm New York day, too. The floral print was also appropriate for a girly bridal shower. Once again I wore the same pearl sandals that I packed with me from Sam Edelman that are easy to wear with most feminine looks.

POLO TOP | SHORTS | SANDALS

I didn’t have the opportunity to wear this look while away this weekend in New York, but I still want to include it as a chic outfit idea for a trip to NYC. The combination of a rib knit polo top with trouser shorts feels very NYC. The look is tailored, polished, and doesn’t immediately scream tourist. If I were to wear this outfit in the city I would definitely swap out the white sandals for sneakers because that shoe style feels more practical.

Linen-Blend Floral Ruched Mini Babydoll Dress from Express

DRESS | BAG | SNEAKERS

For our big day in the city, I wore a linen mini dress from Express. I couldn’t wait to wear this gorgeous floral dress somewhere! With the dress I wore my same satchel purse and a pair of white Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. I think a dress and sneakers is the ultimate outfit for walking around New York City in the summertime. My all-white sneakers pair nicely with a printed mini dress.

BLOUSE | SHORTS | BAG | SHOES

Another outfit idea that would be great for New York City includes a printed blouse with paper bag high-waisted shorts. My paper bag shorts are one of my favorite recent purchases from Walmart. These shorts are versatile, soft, and have a beautiful neutral color. The brown and white printed blouse from Gibsonlook dresses up the rather casual outfit.
