A Stylish Stay in the Heart of Savannah: Municipal Grand Hotel Review

This past weekend my sister and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Municipal Grand hotel in the heart of historic downtown Savannah, Georgia. Newly opened as of this spring, the Municipal Grand hotel truly lives up to its name – “Grand” – due to its retro-modern look felt throughout each corner of the property.

About the Municipal Grand Hotel

Once a municipal bank building in the 1960s, the Municipal Grand now boasts 44 top of the line guest rooms and suites. As you walk through the Municipal Grand hotel, you are met with mid-century elements such as terrazzo floors and dark wooden accents. Upon entering the lobby of the hotel, you find yourself in the middle of Municipal Bar where tourists and locals alike unwind with a seasonal cocktail in hand. There’s plenty of space to gather with friends for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

My sister and I checked into the Municipal Grand hotel on Thursday evening after a long drive up from Florida. Our room keys were physical gold keys which was a nice surprise and added touch to honor the historic building. Our stunning guest room had us both walking back and forth in excitement. We soaked up each tiny detail of our room as we unloaded our bags for the adventurous weekend ahead.

Municipal Grand Guest Room

Here is a glimpse into our room at the Municipal Grand. A velvet green headboard anchored the bed in addition to two adjustable mushroom-shaped lamps. Every element in our room was right on theme. We couldn’t believe the extravagant minibar that was all ours. Even though we only ended up using the coffee machine, the elaborate and beautiful minibar found inside our room at the Municipal Grand is unlike any other hotel room I’ve ever stayed at.

I hope the photo of the plush bedding does it justice because I had some of the best sleep every night inside our room at the Municipal Grand after a long day of strolling through Savannah. Our guest room had a king sized bed which was great for my sister and I to share.

Brunch at Municipal Bar

The following morning after our long travel day, my sister and I woke up with food on the brain. We got ready to enjoy coffee and brunch downstairs in the lobby at Municipal Bar. We cozied up in the plush green booth and were promptly greeted by Steven who took our order. He delivered our iced lattes within minutes and our food followed shortly after. I decided to go for something sweet with the French Toast complete with Georgia peaches. My sister went savory and devoured the Frittata Sando!

The Location

Across the street from the Municipal Grand you’ll stumble upon Leopold’s Ice Cream. Kayla would recommend ordering the mint flavor! My sister and I ended each night with a sweet treat and were so grateful to be steps away from our hotel room! The location of the Municipal Grand can’t be beat. You are within walking distance to dozens of restaurants, boutiques, and iconic Savannah establishments. My sister and I walked less than 10 minutes to get to the Savannah Riverwalk from our hotel.

Would I Recommend Staying at the Municipal Grand?

Without a doubt, I would recommend staying at the Municipal Grand to any friends or family of mine heading to Savannah. The centrally located property, amenities, and historic charm to the Municipal Grand make it an outstanding place to stay for a weekend while visiting Savannah. I can’t wait to return back again soon!
