Fight Acne in Your 20s With These 3 Skincare Products
This post is all about ACNE! One of my least favorite things, EVER! Since the ripe age of 14, I’ve dealt with my fair share of pain all because of tiny red spots appearing on my face.
What a major bummer to deal with for years! However, I am finally sharing my 3 favorite acne-fighting products in this blog post that you should check out to help heal your own acne! Keep reading to find out what they are and if you are missing out on some seriously lifechanging products.
Oh, pimples. Acne. Red bumps on your face. Mountains. Zits. Whatever you call it, this pesky skin ailment affects millions of women AND men each day. My personal struggle with acne includes plenty of sleepless nights, emotional cries, painful zits, and nightly popping episodes. Ugh! My entire teenage life involved applying cream after cream to my skin until it would burn, itch, or flake off.
I can’t even begin to start counting the financial cost of it all, too. I estimate that my acne has cost me well over $4,000 in serums, clearing gels, over-the-counter prescriptions, and more.
I tried every name brand product on the market to keep fight my daily acne flare-ups. I recall moments when my Grandma would drive over to her favorite store, Big Lots, to buy me the latest Clean & Clear kits for acne. There is nothing she wanted more for me than to have beautiful and clear skin! It’s such an awkward thing for teens to talk about and I definitely wanted to hide my outer appearance as much as possible by continuing to wear thick glasses, pat on layers of powder, and draw attention to other things such as my cute outfits.
I am SO grateful that I found my solution with Accutane during my early twenties. However, I know that a lot of us are still struggling with breakouts (even myself!) as we enter a new decade of our lives. I know that I personally want to seek out products that not only eliminate the physical acne bumps on my skin but treat the underlying causes as well. I have bouts of hormonal acne and I was on the hunt to find products to work for me through all stages of the skin cycle.
These are the top 3 products I recommend to help YOU with your adult acne right now.
Product One: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
Every person dealing with acne needs a drying lotion that will dry up the problem area STAT! That is why I rely on the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion at night. After cleansing, toning, and moisturizing my skin using my 3 step nighttime skincare routine, I directly apply a dab of the pink sulfur lotion to any problem area I need to focus on healing. What does this drying lotion contain that helps acne spots? It has an award-winning combination of salicylic acid, sulfur, and calamine. The lotion works the best overnight to virtually dry up impurities while you sleep. I use this pink drying lotion, again and again, to heal my pesky zits whenever they appear.
Even after going through the Accutane treatment to improve my skin, I still experience hormonal acne flare-ups on my chin. The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion has a great online review for a reason because it works so well on any skin type, too. My flare-ups are no match for the drying lotion.
Product Two: Jan Marini Age Intervention Duality lotion
Another favorite skincare product of mine to help fight acne in your 20s is by Jan Marini. The Jan Marini Age Intervention Duality Lotion is actually a product I discovered after partnering with the Jan Marini brand! Little did I know at the time that I would end up repurchasing this lotion for the rest of the year so I had a new bottle ready to use at a moments notice. For my partnership with Jan Marini, I had a skin consultation with Jan Marini herself.
During our lengthy phone call, Jan was able to find products in her skincare line to address my acne-prone skin. She suggested a couple of her products and I was instructed to try each of them out for 3 months to see how they worked for my skin. If they didn’t work she was going to reevaluate my routine.
I tried using benzoyl peroxide YEARS ago with little change to my skin. However, on my call with Jan, she assured me that this product has the perfect balance of ultra-micronized benzoyl peroxide and retinol to combat serious acne flare-ups. Using a formula with 10% benzoyl peroxide, green tea, hyaluronic acid, and retinol is the perfect combination to treat acne!
Now the price for 1 oz of this miracle acne-reducing product can cost anywhere from $56-$95. I do not like spending THAT much on one single product, but since my skin would not be able to look its best without it, I see the purchase as an investment to look and feel my best! Who wouldn’t want to continue using a product that actually WORKS, am I right? After so many years of struggling to find products to do the trick, I can’t imagine living without a bottle of Jan Marini Age Intervention Duality on my bathroom counter. A lot of people rave about this product on Dermstore if you look at the reviews.
Product Three: T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ 25% AHA+ 2% BHA Mask
When it comes to products that WORK to help fight acne in your 20s, I hate to mention the prices. A lot of people are drawn to the drugstore for inexpensive ways to fix their problem skin.
Trust me when I say that I was THAT girl, too. I wanted something from the drugstore to do what it said it would do and get rid of my acne.
However, every product would let me down. I would feel so discouraged each time I spent $20-$30 on something that just didn’t work for me. I blamed my skin for being the root of my acne. I would spend hours praying that I wished I had different skin. Eventually, I stopped being so hard on myself and sought help with a dermatologist to get down to the final solution, Accutane, to achieve the skin of my dreams. These days I am constantly relying on the BEST products out there to keep my skin clear and free of acne. One of my final product suggestions to fight acne in your 20s includes the T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ 25% AHA+ 2% BHA Mask.
This awesome Drunk Elephant mask contains: 25% AHA Blend (Glycolic + (T) Tartaric, (L) Lactic, (C) Citric Acids): Exfoliates surface dead skin cells and revs up surface turnover to smooth and brighten the appearance of skin. Not only do I love using Drunk Elephant products for cleansers and moisturizers, but I have a serious addiction with this mask for improving the texture of my skin.
I have to warn you that this mask has such a potent amount of AHAs that it may sting when you wait a few minutes and leave it on your skin to perform its duty. The stinging should subside and if you continue to use the mask on a weekly basis you may experience less tingling.
Once you get past the tingling sensation, you will notice your skin feel incredibly soft after gently removing the mask with a warm washcloth. Don’t be afraid if you notice your face looking red! The redness is very common after applying a face mask with AHA. AHA is an acid that also doubles as an exfoliating cleanser.
