How to Pitch Brands as a Blogger | 8 Things to Include in Your Pitch E-mail
Today’s post covers How to Pitch Brands as a Blogger.
Are you interested in learning how to craft the perfect cold pitch e-mail to a brand?
Want to learn how to pitch brands as a blogger?
In today’s blogging advice-focused blog post, I will share my must-haves to include in your next cold pitch e-mail. Land a brand collaboration from your next e-mail by following these 8 tips!
8 Things To Include in Your Pitch E-mail To Land a Brand Collaboration
1. Include Hyperlinks to Your Social Channels
Direct links to your Instagram handle and blog page are two vital stats to include in your next pitch e-mail if you want to land a collaboration with a brand you love.
When I pitch to a brand, I will include my Instagram handle and a link to my blog home page.
If I have a brand in mind to partner with and I’ve written about using one of their products before I will also include hyperlinks to the post. It’s a great way to show why you would be a great fit for the brand. Showing that you already love and use a product from a brand on your blog is something you should definitely link to in your first pitch e-mail.
For example, I partnered with Neutrogena on a few beauty campaigns last year. If I was crafting a new cold pitch e-mail to Neutrogena, you bet I would hyperlink to my Instagram photos where I worked with Neutrogena!
This shows the brand exactly what type of content they can expect from working with me again. Don’t be afraid to boast about your successful partnerships with the brand in the past.
Working with a brand over and over again is the goal, right? Hyperlinking to your previous content also establishes a healthy relationship with the brand and authentically shows your love for the products you are showing off in your images. After crafting an opening sentence to your pitch e-mail the next step comprises a brief description of yourself.
2. Write a Brief Description of Yourself
How to Pitch Brands as a Blogger: keep it brief!
When it comes to adding a description of yourself in your pitch e-mail, make it as brief as possible. Social media coordinators don’t have time to read through a long drawn out description of who you are. The less time you spend talking about yourself the better chance you have at moving an e-mail from the inbox to the reply stage.
In my pitch e-mails, I will include a brief description of who I am in the digital world.
The first few sentences of my pitch email to brands start out like this:
“Hello, X!
My name is Amanda and I am a Tampa, Florida based style and beauty blogger from the Instagram and Blog, Affordable by Amanda.”
This is a short and sweet example that gets straight to the point of describing who I am and where the brand contact can find my social channels.
3. How to Pitch Brands as a Blogger: Outline Deliverables
Another important aspect of every pitch -email includes outlining exactly what the deliverables will look like for a brand collaboration. You need to sit down and write out what types of deliverables you plan on providing for the brand and include these inside your pitch e-mail.
Possible examples of “deliverables” includes a
-
static Instagram in-feed post
-
Instagram stories
-
a dedicated 300-word blog post,
-
Pinterest shares
-
Facebook shares
-
other types of social media coverage
In your cold pitch e-mail, you should indicate what types of deliverables you will provide for the brand. Get rid of the guesswork and just lay it all out there for your brand contact to understand exactly what you plan on creating for the brand in a collaboration.
You can say something like…
“For this collaboration, I am planning on creating a 300-word blog post with 5-8 total images. 2 of the images will include product flat lays, 2 of the images will include me applying the product, and 2 of the images will be me with the products in my hands.”
Outline these deliverables and work on gathering a sentence to share your personal connection to the brand (see the next tip).

4. Write a Personal Connection To The Brand
Make your pitch stand out from the hundreds of other pitches a brand contact may see in a day by making a personal connection with the brand in your pitch e-mail. Add a personal connection to the brand by listing a couple of reasons why you love the brand or use the brand in your day to day life!
For example, if I were to pitch a brand collab to Vital Proteins, I would include a little tidbit about how I use their matcha powder in my morning smoothies to provide my body with the right burst of energy that I need when I first wake up.
I also typically include hyperlinks to the exact product I am mentioning in my pitch e-mail so the brand contact can see how I took an extra step to research the brand and indicate what product I actually use in my daily life!
So for this example, I would add a hyperlink to the “Vital Proteins Matcha Powder” when I include it in my pitch e-mail. After you consider what to say as a personal connection to the brand, think of 2-3 unique collaboration ideas.
5. Be Specific, But Flexible With Your Collaboration Ideas
Nobody has time to read a lengthy pitch e-mail! You need to figure out how to land a brand collaboration within the first few lines of an e-mail.
I would suggest crafting a brief pitch e-mail with no more than 3-5 sentences total.
Your pitch e-mail has a much better chance of earning a response from brand contacts if you keep your message short and sweet. Brand contacts are going to take a couple of minutes to scan over your pitch e-mail before they decide to toss it in the trash or give you a quick reply, so don’t write out a novel!
I would weave in your collaboration ideas in your first pitch e-mail.
For example, let’s tackle a possible pitch e-mail to a coffee brand such as SToK Cold Brew Coffee.
“I would love to feature SToK Cold Brew Iced Coffee in an upcoming blog post where I plan on sharing my Spring morning routine. My morning routine is not complete without a cup of ready to drink vanilla SToK Cold Brew Iced Coffee. My blog post will contain high-res images where I am preparing a cup of SToK Cold Brew in my kitchen. “
In this example, we outlined the deliverable (blog post) and what type of product the blog post will feature (vanilla SToK Cold Brew) for the brand. This is an excellent example of a specific collaboration idea to send over to the brand for review.
6. Address the Brand Contact By First Name
Once you find a brand contact to send your pitch e-mail to, make sure to do a little extra digging and find out what their first name is. It’s important to address the brand contact you find by first name.
You don’t even want to know how many e-mails I’ve been sent by brands addressing me by love, cutie, gorgeous girl, or @affordablebyamanda. It puts such a bad taste in my mouth to see people address me by those names instead of Amanda. Don’t make that same mistake!
Before I send out any pitch e-mails I am certain to address the brand contact by his or her first name. You want to create a personal e-mail and addressing someone by their first name is a smart approach to do so.
Sound professional when you address someone by their first name in your pitch e-mail.
First impressions are everything when you are crafting the perfect, winning pitch e-mail to send to a brand. Keep it professional, grammar-free, and to the point for optimal success as a blogger. In addition to addressing the brand contact by his or her first name, you also need to leave out your media kit in this first e-mail.
7. Do NOT Include Your Media Kit In Your 1st E-mail!
Some social media experts may steer you in the opposite direction, but according to my sources and my personal experience, I never share my media kit in my first pitch e-mail.
Once you hear back from a brand and set up the next steps to proceed with collaboration, then it’s time to send over your official media kit with your rates and deliverables.
Sending over your media kit has the potential to earn you a paid collaboration (on Instagram or on your blog) once the brand contact reads over your prices for each deliverable, too. Stick to your media kit rates and send your kit in the second e-mail rather than the first e-mail so you can figure out how much to charge the brand once you’ve hooked them into working with you!
Writing a stellar pitch e-mail does not have to include your media kit just yet. Make sure you aren’t selling yourself short by attaching your media kit too early in the game. To pitch brands as a blogger you just need to start out by introducing yourself to the brand in your first e-mail.
Once the brand sees your media kit, they will either accept or pass on working together. One final tip I will share with you today has to deal with sending your e-mail to the right person.
8. Send Your Pitch to the Right Person
One final tip I will offer you today includes pitching to the right person. You should do some research on any brand you aspire to work with before sending a pitch and that includes researching the best contacts. When I take time to find the best contacts to send out my pitch e-mail to I perform a Google search.
My Google search typically goes like this:
“X social media coordinator”
“XX public relations”
“BRAND social media manager”
Then, after extensive searches, I will get more specific and find an e-mail for the person I am looking for. I will also do some work finding out what the person’s first and last name will look like in the proper e-mail format. I use two search services for this: RocketReach and Hunter to find what I’m looking for in seconds.
