Embroidered cotton tops are the way to go for the summer. Wearing lightweight cotton materials from July until September gets me through the summer months when all I want to do is wear as little clothing as possible.

Thin and breathable cotton fabrics are an absolute must-have item right now and when I found this Universal Thread Embroidered Top at Target it instantly fulfilled my cotton top quota. Instead of choosing the pink color for this top I actually switched things up and went for the gold!

The ruched high neckline on this top gives it a bohemian feel. This brand new Universal Thread top feels amazing, lightweight, and holds up in the heat. I can’t wait to share the next way I styled it, but first I’ll explain a little more about the brand new (discounted) denim shorts I’m wearing above.

One way I decided to style the top for summer includes a pair of Express Paperbag High-Rise Denim shorts that I scored on sale this month. I’m not a huge fan of wearing short shorts so I typically order mid-thigh high-waisted ones for the summer.

This is the first outfit where I’m styling these denim shorts, too! I ordered a medium and they fit me well. These shorts had positive reviews and that also encouraged me to order them. The denim shorts from Express did not disappoint as they are super stretchy and fit true to size. For real, these denim paper bag shorts are a good find right now especially with the Express sale going on.

Another outfit idea I came up with for this ruffled embroidered top from Universal Thread channels my love for florals. One of the best new finds for my summer outfits, by far, is this rattan woven belt. The stretchy woven belt pulls together this look. I needed something to tie together the top and floral skirt and this belt did the trick for me.

Midi skirts are iconic for summer! I love how Louise styles it here on her blog. The affordable $22 side slit skirt I’m styling today also comes in a brighter yellow option, too.

I’d also consider adding an oversized denim jacket and white canvas sneakers to this exact casual look. I had a lot of fun styling this second outfit to mix in my personal style: a little feminine and a little bohemian!

As soon as I spotted the same exact color of the blouse in this side slit skirt, I put it together to wear out for the shoot. I’d also suggest pairing this floral midi with a white puff sleeve top (like this $8.99 H&M one) or a pink lingerie cami top (check out this $17.50 option from Abercrombie ) for more inspiration.
