This post covers transitioning outfits from summer to fall this year. Transitioning outfits from summer to fall doesn’t have to take much effort. Most of the time I hang onto my favorite summer pieces and add a few layering pieces to keep cool.
In this first look, I’m wearing a flirty polka dot skirt and a white halter top. To transition this exact outfit from summer to fall I added a pair of slouchy boots from Amazon as well as an H&M denim jacket.
1 Way to Transition Your Outfits From Summer To Fall? Add Denim
What makes the look flow easily into fall are the slouchy boots and the denim jacket. Honestly, these could be two staples pieces that you already own in your wardrobe right now! Throwing on a denim jacket and switching out flat for boots fits perfectly for a trendy fall outfit. H&M denim jackets are also made really well as I’ve owned a few of my own in the past.

V Wire Bodysuit (Ivory, size M) | O’Neill Johnny Floral-Print Pants (sized up to L) | Lock & Letter Charm Layered Chain Necklace | UO Flat Brim Felt Fedora Hat | HAAN Women Handwoven Wicker Rattan Crossbody Rectangle Bag
My white bodysuit has thick straps and a super soft material which are two factors I look for in a bodysuit to own season after season! The one I’m wearing runs TTS (true to size) and I have on a medium. I chose to tuck my white bodysuit into this floral printed pair of flowy pants from O’Neill.
Transition Your Outfits From Summer To Fall: Wear Olive Green
Now for the pants, I chose to size up to a large for extra room at the waist and in the legs. I’m glad I went with the large for that exact reasoning. These floral pants have a great print to them that works for both summer and fall fashion in my opinion. The darker florals can look nice in the fall time paired with an oversized cardigan, too.

I recently wore this look out to explore the new St. Pete Pier with friends and I have to say I felt comfortable throughout our visit. Wearing this floral jumpsuit was the right decision because it was a simple look packed with plenty of vibrant colors. To go with my colorful jumpsuit I wore my signature Urban Outfitters fedora hat and layered on gold accessories.
Transition From Summer To Fall: Add Block Ankle Boots
To transition this summer outfit into fall, I suggest adding some layers in the form of a cozy open cardigan like this $25 one from Target. Of course, no fall outfit feels complete without a pair of ankle booties. Check out this pair of block heel ankle boots from Amazon on sale right now.

At the beginning of summer, Brian and I ventured to the Godfrey Hotel for a day full of outdoor activities. We rented the bikes out front of the property for an afternoon bike ride and it was so much fun getting back on a bike to stroll along the waterfront.
Transition Your Outfit From Summer To Fall: Plaid Slacks Are In
My outfit for hanging out at the Godfrey Hotel included a pair of floral drawstring shorts from Target and a beige-colored sweater tank. Even when I do outfit activities I want to look cute! I’ll be sharing how I plan on transitioning this beige sweater tank from summer into the fall season in the collage below. I predict sweater tanks will continue as a top trend for fall. With this in mind, I want to add in a pair of plaid slacks with a neutral oversized coat.
Universal Thread Floral Print Flutter Short Sleeve Embroidered Blouse (size M) | EXPRESS Super High Waisted Cinched Paperbag Shorts (size M) | Women’s Morgan Espadrille Wedge – Universal Thread™ (size 10)
One of my favorite looks from the summer was this ruffle top and paper bag denim shorts combo! You can see my look featured on Target’s website when you search for this flutter short sleeve embroidered blouse, too. This top also comes in baby pink, green, and white. The brown shade stood out to me the most because it felt like a nice transitional top to own.
As the seasons change, I want to style this feminine and soft flutter sleeve top with my new pair of cream wide-leg pants that are also from Target and the boho Universal Thread line.
Transition Your Outfit From Summer to Fall: Wide Leg Pants
I recently purchased a pair of Universal Thread™ High-Rise Wide Leg Cropped Jeans in a size 10 ($29.99) for the fall season. I scored an extra 5% off by using the Target Circle app, too! In the collage below you can see how I picture myself styling these two pieces with leopard ankle boots and a practical tan crossbody bag.
