The Best Instagram Reels for Fashion Content Creators
The Best Instagram Reels for Fashion Content Creators
Instagram has made it clear that the app wants to put more emphasis on video content creation. With the success of TikTok, Instagram knew they had to rebrand a bit to keep up with the latest social media trends. Instagram released “Reels” in August 2020. Honestly, the timing of Reels came on the heels on TikTok during the pandemic.
Content creators did not know what to think about Instagram copying TikTok. At first, many content creators felt hesitant to jump on the Instagram Reels train. TikTok will always been known as the first of its kind with short form videos and catchy trending songs. Not only has Instagram added Reels to their features, but so has YouTube with “shorts” and Facebook with their own version of reels.
8 Best Instagram Reels for Fashion Influencers
As a content creator myself, I felt so overwhelmed at the thought of uploading MORE videos to a platform. For my business I already use YouTube, and TikTok as ways to share videos. Initially I stayed away from IG Reels because it seemed daunting to post creative videos on my Instagram account.
Now, I am fully embracing IG Reels as a way to grow my account, share fashion outfits, and jump on trending songs to reach more people.
Instagram Reels for Fashion Content Creators
1. What I Ordered Vs. What I Got
With this trending Instagram Reels idea, you take screenshots of the clothing you purchased from a retailer (Amazon) and then show how the item looks on your body. Over the past few months, this trend has blown up on IG Reels! Personally, I share a lot of these types of reels to my account to share new pieces from Target, Amazon, Walmart, and more.

2. The Outfit Vs. The Photos
Take a recording of your outfit (it can be at home or at a location) and then attach photos of your final look. You start out sharing the video portion and title it “The Outfit Vs. The Photos” for a few seconds. Once the video ends, share a few photos of your outfit.

3. Get Ready With Me
A super simple fashion reels idea: get ready with me. Record yourself from a waking up pose and then jump to putting on a shirt, bottoms, shoes to complete your look from head to toe. As always, be sure to link your outfit in your caption or finish the video with a CTA (call to action) and tell your followers to click the link in your profile to shop your outfit.

Style With Me
Show the camera a new dress you just bought and proceed to style it with accessories, shoes, etc. Capture each item you put on and then edit the video together. Trim down any long pauses of the video by using my favorite video editing app InShot.
Transition From One Look to the Next
I have a few tips for transitioning from one outfit to the next:
- Snap your fingers
- Tap one shoulder
- Twirl around
- Drop your clothes into a pile and “step” on the pile. Have the clothes on in the next shot
- Walk out of frame and then walk back into frame wearing a different outfit
- Style one item multiple ways
- This or That: offer your followers a choice between two different looks. Add text saying “This? or That?” above your video.
- Keep or Return: try on multiple outfits and use a finger to point up. In editing, add text by your finger to say “Keep” or “Return” based on how you feel about the item.
4. Outfits of the Week
I’ll make sure to share my original IG Reel with you here so you can click “Save” on this trending sound. I saw this sound taking off in the fall and occasionally I’ll using it another time to show off my outfits of the week.

5. Come Shopping With Me
Last year I would walk through Target and film clips of myself shopping through different parts of the store. I would pick up some clothes, accessories, and even shoes and show them on camera as I shopped at Target.
Once I had all my shopping footage I compiled the clips using InShot to create a “Come Shopping With Me” reel. I typically started the video out with a clip of the front of Target before jumping into the shopping clips.

6. What I’d Wear To
Another fashion reel idea includes sharing a few looks for a certain occasion. For example, you can share a few dresses to wear for a summer wedding.
7. Style One Item Multiple Ways
Recently I bought a new white eyelet top and I chose to style it a few different ways on Instagram. With my basic white top I styled it with a skirt, pair of printed pants, and midi skirt.

8. Repurpose a TikTok Video
Many fashion influencers take their TikTok videos and post them again to Instagram. One easy trick to make sure you don’t lose the quality of your video is to take a screen recording of a PREVIEW of your TikTok.
