10 Timeless Wardrobe Essentials

I create a lot of seasonal capsule wardrobes on Affordable by Amanda, but I don’t think I’ve listed out wardrobe essentials that are timeless and classic. These are 10 timeless wardrobe essentials that a woman should have in her closet.

From a little black dress to neutral sneakers, I have a list of 10 must-haves that every woman should own for a versatile wardrobe.

1. Bodysuit

I have quite a few bodysuits that I rely on as basics year round. I’d suggest finding a neutral bodysuit in a short sleeve style that can be worn alone or underneath outerwear in the fall. In my own wardrobe, I have neutral, black, and white bodysuits. You can find nice quality bodysuits on Amazon or spend a little more for a sleek seamless bodysuit at Abercrombie & Fitch. 2. Cotton T-Shirt

Cotton t-shirts are ideal for warmer weather which is why they make this list as a timeless wardrobe essential. Reach for a classic white cotton t-shirt to wear with jeans, trousers, skirts, and shorts depending on the season. Since this is an item you’ll wear often, I suggest investing in a higher quality piece. Look at Everlane or GAP for a soft and effortless 100% cotton t-shirt.

3. Cardigan

One of the best outerwear pieces to have in a timeless wardrobe is a cardigan. Depending on what’s in style, you may want a short or long cardigan to have at the ready as an extra layer. Right now short cardigans are on trend while longline cardigans are not as popular. Consider an open front cardigan as a go-to layering piece for early fall. 4. Crewneck Sweater

In the fall, you can wear a crewneck sweater numerous ways. Style a crewneck sweater with dark wash denim jeans, a satin slip skirt, or wide-leg trousers for both office and weekend looks. Look for a soft textured crewneck to keep in your closet for years to come. Some of my top stores to shop for crewneck sweaters are H&M and Abercrombie. Consider looking for a crewneck sweater with a little bit of nylon for some stretch, too.

5. Tailored Trousers

These days tailored trouser pants are no longer exclusively reserved for the office. Tailored trousers have become closet must-haves for the weekend, too. Pair your trousers with a t-shirt or a sweater on the weekend to elevate an otherwise casual top. Thankfully, there are so many places to shop for tailored trousers at all price points. 6.Blue Jeans

Classic denim blue jeans are a wardrobe staple. Find a pair that is in the style of jeans you prefer to wear. For example: straight-leg blue jeans are some of the most universally flattering. 7. Wool Blend Coat

In the fall and winter time you’ll rely on a warm wool-blend coat to carry you from day into night. I personally adore my neutral wool-blend coat that I invested in from Abercrombie last winter. The wrap coat style is also very much on trend right now. Wool-blend coats are excellent to pair with trousers and jeans alike. 8. Little Black Dress

You’ll need to have a go-to dress for special events and date nights. To keep things simple, a little black dress will take you far as a wardrobe essential. Your timeless little black dress should also be cut at the right length that you feel the most comfortable wearing. For me, I love a shorter mini dress length to show off my legs. 9. Flats

Flats are your basic every day shoe. Whether you are working in an office or working from home, flats are the perfect shoe. Amazon has cute and comfortable affordable flats in all styles: ballet flats, Mary Janes, and loafers. In fact, the Amazon Essentials line has an inexpensive ballet flat that comes in 10+ colors for under $25.

10. Sneakers

Sneakers are important to have for running errands, but these days sneakers can also be worn for casual wear. For a timeless capsule wardrobe, you should find a pair of neutral sneakers that you can style with jeans, skirts, dresses, and shorts. My favorite neutral sneakers are from New Balance, ON Running, and Hoka.
