Winter Staple Outerwear

Chunky Knit Cardigan: as with the fall capsule wardrobe that I put together a few weeks ago, this winter capsule also features a cardigan. This time, however, I want to note that I am including a much thicker chunky knit cardigan as the lower temperatures require it.

Plaid Blazer: since everything in this winter capsule wardrobe is mostly neutral, you’ll want to add some pattern here and there. A plaid blazer will be one outerwear piece that layers nicely over the long sleeve tops and sweaters that are found in this capsule. The plaid blazer will look great for work worn with trousers and can also be worn for a casual weekend look.

Wool Blend Coat: what’s a classic coat for winter? A wool blend coat! Depending on your color preference, you’ll want to add a neutral, grey, or black wool-blend coat as a staple outerwear piece. Don’t be fooled — Amazon has some seriously impressive affordable wool-blend coats available like this one.

Faux Leather Jacket: I can’t get over how chic this faux leather jacket looks from Levi’s at Amazon. It also has a soft puffer jacket style to it that makes it ideal for winter weather.

Long Puffer Coat: if you live somewhere where you experience many days of chilly weather, you’ll need a long puffer coat. I am so excited that Amazon brought back one of my top purchases last year which was this chic beige long puffer coat. When Brian and I traveled to Wisconsin last winter, I ended up bringing this thick puffer coat along for the trip!

Faux Shearling Jacket: want to add some texture to your winter capsule? I suggest a faux shearling jacket. Amazon has a ton of variety when it comes to faux shearling jackets — I personally love the look to this one with the brown faux leather details.

Sweater Dress: a casual sweater dress that has a thicker knit material to it will be great for winter events.

Fancy Dress: add a fancy long sleeve satin dress into your winter capsule mix for dinners and dressed up holiday events.

 

Winter Capsule: Bottoms

Pleated Mini Skirt: now you may not think a pleated skirt can be part of a winter wardrobe, but I think when you pair a skirt with tights it can be a cute girly approach to a winter outfit.

Trouser Pants: style trousers for the office with a plaid blazer and long sleeve top.

Denim Jeans: I think you should consider two different washes of jeans for a winter capsule wardrobe: a dark wash pair and a light wash pair. For the sake of this capsule wardrobe, I chose to style a dark wash denim jean multiple ways.

Faux Leather Pants: when you aren’t in the mood to wear jeans, opt for sleek faux leather pants. Pair the tunic sweater or turtleneck sweater with faux leather pants for an effortless winter outfit option.

Winter Capsule: Shoes

Tall Boots: pair tall boots with your pleated skirt outfit or sweater dress. I own these black tall knee high boots from Amazon and they are comfortable to walk in, too.

Ankle Boots: I love the look of a neutral faux leather ankle boot with trousers or denim jeans in the winter season. These faux leather ankle boots from Nine West look luxe for under $90.

Dressy Heels: for both dress options featured in this winter capsule wardrobe you can wear dressy heels. A chic holiday party look needs dressy heels and these neutral ones are ideal.

Slippers: UGG-inspired slippers are still very much a popular shoe for casual winter outfits.

Sneakers: on most casual winter days, sneakers are a go-to shoe. I swear by my white Nike sneakers to keep me comfortable while out and about.

Chelsea Boots: another shoe option for casual winter looks: Chelsea boots. I am a big fan of a neutral Chelsea boot that zips up easily on the side.

Snow Boots: snow boots are essential for those of you who live in places where it snows often. A few years back, I invested in these sherpa Sorel snow boots for a winter trip. Not only are these Sorel boots practical for snowy conditions, but the sherpa details make them feel a bit more feminine.

 

Winter Capsule: Accessories

Blanket Scarf: when it comes to winter accessories, a cozy blanket scarf will be a fun addition on top of a crewneck sweater.

Beanie: a soft and warm beanie hat goes hand in hand with a blanket scarf for a cold winter day.

Tights: wear fleece-lined tights with the pleated skirt for a girly winter outfit.
