In case you are unfamiliar with LIKEtoKNOW.it, I will fill you in on one of the largest affiliate networks in the world utilized by all types (and audience demographics!) of fashion and lifestyle bloggers. The LIKEtoKNOW.it platform connects influencers with affiliate links to items sold by well-known retailers (Target, Walmart, Amazon, Nordstrom) in hopes to make small commissions by selling the items they either wear or boast about on social media.

Here Is My No BS Answer For You:

As a fashion influencer, I personally use LIKEtoKNOW.it as one of my income streams throughout my Instagram, blog posts, Facebook posts, and Pinterest pins. Whenever I purchase a new pair of jeans or a new lipstick, I use the app to create a direct link to the item so my audience can be redirected to the retailer to also make a purchase on the item. Once this transaction is complete, I will typically see a commission rate on my end of the LIKEtoKNOW.it app for influencers. I enjoy using this affiliate platform for many reasons. I can easily create a ton of helpful widgets to add to my blog posts to ensure that I share my exact outfit details with up to date shoppable images for my audience to find the right products. I also create content specifically for the app so my 2,000+ followers can have access to brand new sale alerts and the latest products I am loving at the moment.

This growing social shopping service provides influencers with a way to monetize their outfits, home decor, and more in one convenient FREE app. 
Now here is my list of tips to share How to Make Your First $100 on LIKEtoKNOW.it as an Influencer. Also, remember that patience is key here. I didn’t end up passing the $100 mark until roughly 6 months into using the app! I’ve learned a few helpful tricks along the way that has me earning a more consistent amount these days and I am thrilled to finally write them out in a blog post. 

Alright, are you ready?

1. Post “App Only” Content to LTK on a Regular Basis

What I mean by this first piece of advice is that you should use the app to its full advantage by posting content strictly designed to upload into the app. For example, I not only post my Instagram outfit looks into the LIKEtoKNOW.it app, but I also share pretty and easy to read templates filled with items for my followers to shop below.

PRO TIP: Sundays are the BEST DAYS to post into the app, too! These are important shopping days so I post on Sundays between 7-9 pm.

For example, these are two templates currently found on my LTK account. I have one featuring affordable holiday bedroom decor with all of the products listed with links below the template to shop. I use CANVA and Over apps to create these unique templates. Using these templates will allow you to post more than one item into an image, too. These templates become great tools for sharing across Pinterest in addition to the LTK app!


My goal each day is to post anywhere between 5-10 brand new images strictly into the LTK APP!

And plus, how stinkin’ CUTE are these templates!? It’s all about the visuals, people!

Create Unique “App Only” Content: How To Use Templates 

  1. I used the Over app to create the following templates below
  2. I then upload them into my LTK account
  3. I find the products I included on each template and publish the final image to create a unique LTK link. Voila!

2. Encourage Your Instagram Followers to Follow You in The Free App

Make sure you spend a couple of days introducing your Instagram audience to the world of LIKEtoKNOW.it. I even have a helpful highlight tab on my Instagram profile page explaining the ins and outs to downloading this free app. I will spend a day or so each week promoting my LIKEtoKNOW.it account on my Instagram stories with a “swipe up” link on each slide. 
You have to promote yourself on this secondary platform a few times before you see your number of followers increase on LIKEtoKNOW.it. Constantly remind your Instagram audience to check out your other profile for even more content and special sale alerts to ensure that they give you a follow. Growing your following on LIKEtoKNOW.it is a long and tedious process that may take months. Have patience with growing your audience on this app!
PRO TIP: Another option to grow your LTK app audience is by participating in Instagram giveaways where there is an “LTK app entry bonus”. 
I remember getting involved with a lot of these giveaways where there is an extra bonus to follow me in the LTK app which helped increase the number of people following me. Once again, growing your audience in the app takes time and patience. I would also recommend teaming up with a smaller group of bloggers to do a giveaway on each other’s blogs to grow your audience on the app. 
PRO TIP: Include a dedicated highlight tab on your Instagram profile to explain the ins and outs of the LIKEtoKNOW.it app. 
  1. Include a few story slides “swipe up” links directly to your account.
  2. Hop on stories and tell your audience WHY they need to follow you on there for more content.
  3. I suggest calling this highlight tab something like “Shop My LTK Looks” 

3. Pin Your LIKEtoKNOW.it App Images to Pinterest Group Boards

If you don’t already use Pinterest for blog traffic then definitely sign up and make an account today. I rely heavily on Pinterest for multiple reasons and two of them include directing traffic over to my blog posts and making a commission from LIKEtoKNOW.it images. As soon as I upload a brand new image into the LIKEtoKNOW.it app, I click on the Pinterest icon to share it on that platform instantly.

PRO TIP: Adding a lengthy caption packed with hashtags can also make your pin go viral. Be sure to take this extra step to add hashtags and a destination website link to your pin.

After you change the caption around and add a destination link, share your pin on multiple blogging group boards to increase visibility. I always pin my LIKEtoKNOW.it images no matter what they look like to group boards. For example, I post outfit shots to seasonal group boards fit for sharing “fall” or “summer” looks while I also post collages to these same boards.

This is one of my recent LTK App *collages* that I uploaded to the LTK app and then uploaded over to Pinterest! Holiday Gift Guides are always a huge hit during October-December which means you have a high chance of making commission with these types of posts. I typically repin my images onto 8-10 group boards for even more visibility and the opportunity to see link clicks on the products listed in this collage.


4. Research What Your Bestsellers Are According to Recent Sales Reports

Spend the extra time to research what items are your bestsellers. Do you make a consistently high commission from a specific retailer? Continue to shop and post about products from that same retailer! Is one item performing extremely well over others? Upload a secondary photo of this product into the LTK app again and again to increase sales and visibility. These are just a couple of tricks to keep your commission up as you upload more into the LTK app day after day. Take note of what items are your bestsellers to understand what your audience is interested in purchasing through your links. It’s important to see what products are becoming bestsellers for long term growth, too. I also follow plenty of influencers/fashion bloggers who are killing it at their LIKEtoKNOW.it game. I adapt my LTK posts to fit their model because if it works well for them then it ought to work well for me, right?

STUDY YOUR TOP PERFORMING RETAILERS!


Analytics can easily point you in the right direction to continue making more effective decisions to increase commission sales! You should study your rewardStyle analytics and take note of what retailers are bringing in the most sales for you. What types of items are people buying from you? Where are they shopping?

By studying my personal analytics, I’ve discovered that Target and Amazon are two of my top-performing retailers. I have taken this information and integrated it into my strategy to increase commission sales over the past two months. I am now shopping more and more at both Target and Amazon. I have been creating “app-only” content where I publish fitting room try-on pictures inside my local Target. With the knowledge I have from my analytics, I’ve been able to see more success with rewardStyle than ever before.

5 Easy Tips for Success Uploading Images Into the LTK APP:

Here is an example from my own LIKEtoKNOW.it account where I utilize a lot of relevant hashtags to make sure my images will pop up as users search for items!
1. Add your specific sizing details
2. Provide color details with close-up shots
3. Find relevant hashtags that describe the item (#amazoncoat, #walmartfashion)
4. Use popular (seasonal) LTK tags (ex: the holiday season has #ltkholidaystyle)

30% of sales from LTK come from the discovery page which means you need to optimize your LIKEtoKNOW.it account as you would a Pinterest pin by adding relevant hashtags to your images.

5. Yes, You Should Really Shop What’s Popular!

Shopping what’s popular is another way to boost your LTK commission sales! I usually take note of the “Recently Sold” and “Most Popular” tabs on the influencer side of the rewardStyle website to look through what’s been selling fast. Obviously, I don’t want to tell you to stop shopping where you love to shop, but I’ve noticed an increase in my own personal commission sales when I started researching the “Recently Sold” items and integrating them into my content. I will add some of these recently sold items into a folder on my rewardStyle account and when the time comes for me to do a little “blog shopping” as I like to call it, I’ll typically add those select items to my cart at checkout. 

6. OK, So What Happens With “Negated” Purchases?

During heavy traffic days, it will take time for retailers to report sales. Link clicks are reported in real-time by rewardStyle, yet sales may take a few days to kick in as these numbers are reported by the retailer. 
However, there are some cases where sales may be negated and not count toward your total commission. In order to understand exactly how to make your first $100 on LIKEtoKNOW.it as an influencer, you also need to educate yourself on some reasons why a sale may not go through. Below are a few examples of why your sales may be negated or deemed non-commissionable by the retailer:
  • Returns/Cancelled Orders: The retailer can reverse commissions that have been returned or canceled. 
  • Self-purchases: Depending on the retailer, a self-purchase may be considered a breach of their Terms of Service.
  • Gift Cards/Coupon codes: When a reader utilizes a gift card or coupon code to complete a purchase, that can take the place as the ‘source’ of the sale and cause a sale to be negated.
  • Last Click Attribution: If a reader clicks on your link, then another affiliate link, this works on a ‘last click attribution’ model, meaning the last link clicked on would get the credit for the sale.
  • The rStyle link is not properly formatted: Link Ninja enables you to easily create commissionable links to a retailer’s website. However, sales can be credited to another publisher if links are not properly formatted at the time of rStyle link creation.

More Information About Commissions From the rewardStyle Team

  • The commission earned is based on the item purchased rather than the item linked. Consumers could buy multiple items after clicking your link (yay!) and you’ll get a commission on all of the commissionable items included in their order. 
  • Multiple items can be a part of one order. My Rewards displays commission by item-level but retailers close commission on an order level.
  • A returned item will display below or near the original sale commission date. A Sale Return will extend the order’s normal closing period, depending on when the return is processed.

These are some of my most recent and frankly top-performing orders of early November. My commissions are still “open” so I am waiting until the “closing” period on some of these retailers before I see the end result pop up in my “payment due” tab. 

What strategies worked for me to receive these high commissions in November? 

  • Holiday gift guides contributed to a large percentage of my recent sales in the LTK app!
  • Home decor images also contributed to a higher commission as I sold an order through my chunky knit blanket link within this bedroom decor image. 
  • Pinning my LTK app images onto popular and high traffic Pinterest boards also helped increase the visibility of my images.

    Hey Amanda! I found your blog page (this page) covering some LTK information and I was curious about the: “multiple items can be a part of one order. My Rewards displays commission by item-level but retailers close commission on an order level.” I went to look over on my RS page and I saw someone used my link to purchase the item, and it also shows 12 other items were bought! BUT, I was only paid for the one item linked? Do you maybe know as to why?

      Hi Macy! Great question. So when someone clicks on your affiliate link, they do not necessarily purchase the initial item they clicked on. Rather, you get credit for the entire purchase someone makes once they clicked on your affiliate link. The order total is how much you get paid for in the end. If someone makes a small purchase, you’ll only receive commission for the small total amount.
