Hi, friend! This post covers the best drugstore skincare products of 2020. Don’t think for a second that you have to shop at high-end beauty retailers to create an effective skincare routine! I’ve been shopping the drugstore beauty sections for years now and there are products that I repurchase again and again.
The best drugstore skincare routine includes a cleanser, moisturizer, and serum to combat dryness and keep breakouts to a minimum. My skin type is called combination which means I tackle both bouts of dryness and acne-prone areas on my face. My T-zone typically flares up with hormonal acne, too.
I’m thrilled to share some recent drugstore skincare beauty products that have helped me with my combination skin type. All of these products have been tested on my skin and work nicely together. Each skincare product I am mentioning features clean ingredients, too! Most of these are safe for sensitive skin with the except of the retinol oil which could be drying.
Enough chit-chat — let’s dive into the best drugstore skincare routine!
La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Face Cleanser
There are two requirements I seek out in any facial cleansing: foaming action and non-stripping ingredients. After sticking to the same cleanser for more than a few months now, I recently felt like branching out. While shopping at Target, I found the La Roche Posay line in the beauty department filled with products.
I am the kind of beauty shopper who turns to Google before checking out. The same goes for this cleanser once I picked it up and started reading the label. I immediately entered the name into my phone to see what other people thought about using this La Roche Posay cleanser on their skin.
To my delight, I read positive reviews for this $14.99 gel facial cleansing product. Of course, as I mentioned above, I purposefully seek out foaming cleansers and this one from La Roche Posay qualified. So far so good with the cleanser after adding it to my nightly routine! The bright blue bottle waits for me in the shower and the clear liquid flows easily out of the tube.
Since becoming such an avid mask-wearer this year, I’ve been dealing with more acne breakouts than usual. The La Roche Posay foaming gel face cleanser has the right mix of ingredients to help with acne. The cleanser effectively removes excess oil and grime from a long day of content shooting. It’s recommended for people with combination skin, too. I fit the bill perfectly with my combo skin type!
Bliss Rose Gold Rescue Gentle Moisture Cream For Sensitive Skin
One of my most-loved facial moisturizers is from Drunk Elephant but costs over $60! I just can not fathom spending that much money on a single facial product at the moment. Even though it’s a thick and creamy moisturizer, surely there has to be a similar one at the drugstore, right?
Thankfully, I’ve discovered bliss skincare products all thanks to Hyram, the YouTube skincare genius. The Bliss Rose Gold Rescue Gentle Moisture Cream For Sensitive Skin seriously reminds me of the Drunk Elephant one! It has a whipped texture and thick consistency which I absolutely need in a moisturizer.
Not only does this drugstore moisturizer feature a whipped texture, but it has a nice clean formula free from parabens and sulfates. Soothing rose flower water hydrates and replenishes dry skin.
The formula of this bliss skincare product feels thick yet it quickly disappears onto the skin. I am loving this drugstore moisturizer so much. At first, I was hesitant to drop $20 on it, but then I thought back to when I’d drop over $60 for my luxurious Drunk Elephant moisturizer.
Weleda Skin Food Light Nourishing Cream
Another drugstore moisturizer I want to discuss and suggest to you comes from the brand Weleda. I hadn’t tried any products from this line prior to purchasing the nourishing cream last month.
On a similar note to the bliss rose gold rescue moisturizer, this one from Weleda has a thick consistency. I’m a sucker for a thick consistency, what can I say!
Over the years, I’ve struggled with acne and cystic acne breakouts. I am constantly on a new journey with my skincare routine even though I don’t struggle with consistent breakouts like I once did.
Those days are long behind me, thank God, and I am experimenting with new skincare products to see what works for my combination skin type by slowly incorporating a few new things here and there.
All of the new skincare products I’m discovering pass the “clean” beauty test, too. No longer do I want to clog my delicate pore with parabens and sulfates.
Weleda offers a solution to my needs. With a powerful ingredients list including rosemary leaf extract, pansy extract, calendula extract, and chamomile extract, it’s a plant-filled moisturizer proven to deeply hydrate the skin.
These days I am switching up my nightly moisturizers between the bliss and the Weleda ones. Some days I crave the super-rich texture from bliss while other days I want a relaxing earthy scent to linger on my skin from Weleda. In the morning before I apply my makeup I will also take a quarter-size amount of the Weleda cream to wake up my skin and use it as a makeup primer.
Pixi Beauty Overnight Retinol Oil
In addition to a cleanser and moisturizer, one should incorporate a serum or facial oil into a routine. One facial oil in particular that I swear by comes from Pixi Beauty.
Their Overnight Retinol Oil not only smells heavenly but it also contains retinol to smooth fine lines.
A couple of notes on retinol and why it’s a powerful ingredient: retinol is a Vitamin A derivative to treat anti-aging and acne concerns.
Retinol goes deep down into the dermis layer of the skin to induce the production of elastin and collagen. Retinol also has an exfoliating effect on the skin to improve skin texture. Adding retinol to your skincare routine at night can allow the product to sink into the skin and work overnight.
As advised by dermatologists, retinol is a product that should only add to your skincare routine once you hit your early 20s and 30s. For teens, it’s not an essential part of a traditional skincare routine just yet.
