Tis the season to wear sweater dresses! Upon shopping for holiday presents, I stopped by Hollister to see what they had in stock in terms of cute coats and dresses for the winter. I immediately spotted a gorgeous gray and pink plaid coat (I’ll be posting that look soon) and a creamy white cable knit sweater dress. 

Tips for Styling Sweater Dresses for Women in 2020

I had to grab this gorgeous sweater dress in my size to wear to the Christmas tree farm! It’s super soft and cozy. I’m actually really glad I ended up wearing it that day because it felt chilly out while my Mom and I visited the Christmas tree farm before it closed.

The turtleneck part added the right warmth and comfort to my neck while we walked around the area together. The dress comes in other colors, but I’ve been wanting a creamy white sweater dress for months now!

To style my new white sweater dress, I paired my brown Marc Fisher boots and my new Tory Burch shoulder bag for the festive outing. I am loving this outfit combination so much for a girly twist on a holiday look!

Here are a few tips for styling sweater dresses for women

1. Keep the proportions in mind! The shorter your sweater dress, the longer the boots. You can get away with over-the-knee boots in this case if your sweater dress hits above the knee.
2. Buy the next size up for an oversized look! Some places have sweater dresses that look best in the next size up. At Hollister, I did end up getting a medium because I couldn’t try the dress on in-store, but I also could have opted for a large!
3. Style a sweater dress with tights! Add some textured to your outfit with a pair of dotted, striped, or designer-logo tights.
4. Wear a belt! Adding a belt over your sweater dress can help create waist definition on a rather shapeless silhouette.
