Fall 2023 Capsule Wardrobe

Are you prepared for a new season of fall fashion? I am excited to bring back out my knee-high boots, cardigans, and wool hat for cooler weather! I have formulated a brand new fall capsule wardrobe for you this year. My last one from 2022 easily became one of my most-loved blog posts which is why I knew I needed to recreate an updated version.

In this edition of my 2023 fall capsule wardrobe, I stuck to similar neutral tones throughout each item featured above in the collage. Lots of rich brown, beige, white, and a hint of amber. Most of these items are affordable from Old Navy, Target, and Nordstrom.

Tops and Sweaters

For this fall capsule wardrobe I am including a mix of basic tops with neutral ones. I have a white tank top, white sweater tank, colorful ruffle top, and two neutral sweater options featured here in this year’s fall capsule.

Outerwear

With this fall capsule, I have a neutral blazer, plaid blazer, long cardigan, chunky cardigan, and tan wool-blend coat as outerwear options. I feel like these outerwear pieces are the most versatile ones to have in your wardrobe this season. See how I styled a few of these outerwear items below.

This outfit takes a few key pieces from the fall capsule wardrobe for a sleek work outfit idea. You’ve got a basic white top, plaid blazer, faux leather mini skirt, and knee high boots.

A long brown open front cardigan should also be part of your fall capsule. I found this inexpensive yet soft long duster cardigan from Target for just under $30.

Chunky Cardigan

I’m wearing a neutral ribbed cardigan with a colorful for this next fall outfit idea. You can wear this look during a casual Friday at work or if you are a teacher I think this is a great option with a ruffle top, soft comfy cardigan, and high-waisted denim.

Styling a Chunky Cardigan 4 Ways

Tan Coat

If you live somewhere that gets colder earlier in the year than most then a tan wool-blend coat ought to be part of your specific fall capsule.

Bottoms

Bottoms that I suggest for a fall capsule wardrobe are: mini skirts, midi skirts, trousers, and two different washes on denim jeans. With skirts I think having a faux leather mini skirt, denim skirt, and satin midi skirt are your best options for multiple styling opportunities. With a satin slip skirt, you can see how easily I was able to create three distinct outfit ideas with one clothing item.

These are three examples of how you can dress a faux leather mini skirt for the fall. Grab your favorite ribbed sweater and copy the first look or opt for a trendy idea with a sweater vest like the middle look shows.

Neutral Trouser Outfit Ideas

Dresses

At Target I found a long maxi dress with pleating that would be a beautiful summer into fall transitional dress. Of course, I also like how the color of this dress pairs nicely with the rest of my neutral fall capsule for 2023. It’s affordable and fits TTS.

Shoes

Choose a variety of shoe options to compliment these fall outfit ideas. For the office, you should consider investing in a solid pair of ballet flats or loafer mules. Running errands? Make sure you have a good pair of sneakers that are practical and chic. I like these neutral ones from Veja, but you can definitely just go with your favorite sneaker brand.

Opt for a knee-high boot when styling the mini skirts in this capsule. I have a pair of brown knee-high boots that are on sale during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but you can also find similar versions at Target or Walmart for less.
