Every season I find myself gearing up to craft the best capsule wardrobe to share with you. I have to admit that I am partial to creating a beautiful summer capsule wardrobe that mixes in trendy and staple pieces. The items included in the 2024 summer capsule wardrobe seen here are affordable finds from Old Navy, Abercrombie, Walmart, and Kohl’s.

This summer capsule wardrobe has everything you need to wear from casual weekend looks to a summer wedding. For some reason I also ended up incorporating a lot of blue into this summer capsule in a similar way to last year. An item that really started the capsule is this pair of blue striped pull-on shorts. The striped boxer short trend continues to stay popular.

Let’s cover the basics to any summer capsule wardrobe with tops first. Stick to neutral tops in white, beige, khaki, or tan to mix and match with. Summer bottoms should include pieces with cotton, linen, rayon, or a blend with a few of these fabrics. Linen pants and shorts are easy to wear in the summer heat. Linen fabric holds up well in warm weather conditions because its durable, absorbent, and breathable. Look for linen bottoms in neutral colorways for the most versatility, too.

This white eyelet blouse really reminds me of J.Crew. The shorts have a high-waisted nature to them with a flattering paperbag style.

A summer capsule wardrobe also needs a few dresses for special occasions such as a summer wedding, brunch with friends, graduation celebration, or date night. I am sticking to the blue theme for this capsule wardrobe with a beautiful printed dress option from Abercrombie as well as a denim dress from Old Navy.

OUTERWEAR

I don’t have too much outerwear to include in a summer capsule wardrobe because the warm weather doesn’t require too much layering! I live in sunny Florida so I rarely need a jacket or cardigan. I’d say a lightweight cardigan will be your best bet if you want to carry one with you for comfort in chilly air conditioned rooms.

LOFT and Quince are my top choices for lightweight cardigans. I look for cardigans that have larger buttons to utilize if necessary. Cardigans are easy to layer over the graphic tee, racer back tank top, and blouse.

Consider investing in a few trendy pieces when it comes to accessories in a capsule wardrobe. Right now there’s been a huge trend in charm necklaces. The other day I found myself buying a gold charm necklace from Target for under $20. You don’t have to get carried away with designing your own charm necklace if you don’t have the budget for it — my Target charm necklace gets the job done.
