Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2023

It’s time for another capsule wardrobe post! I am enjoying the process of sourcing clothing and putting together a capsule wardrobe for each new season. So far I have created a fall, winter, and spring capsule wardrobe. The next season? Summer!

The colors that I chose for this edition of a summer capsule wardrobe are blue, beige, tan, and white. Obviously you can choose your own accent color, but for the sake of this summer capsule collection, I went with a pop of pretty blue. I am thrilled to share styled looks in this post featuring all of the items I found to make up this easy summer capsule wardrobe!

Tops

• Bodysuits

There’s two different styles of bodysuits that I included in this capsule wardrobe for summer. One is a neutral sleeveless bodysuit with a scoop neckline while the other is a white high-neck bodysuit. I like the idea of having two different necklines for these tops to add more variety to the capsule. Bodysuits are versatile tops that are easy to style which is why I have two in this capsule wardrobe!

Styling a White Bodysuit

• One-Shoulder Top

For a top that brings a little color to this otherwise neutral capsule wardrobe, I chose a blue one-shoulder top from Old Navy. This shade of blue carries throughout the rest of the capsule as an accent color. One-shoulder tops are on-trend right now for summer 2023.

• Peplum blouse

You can add any kind of printed blouse to this area of your capsule wardrobe. I decided on a Walmart peplum blouse with a baby blue and white print.

• Lounge sweater or sweatshirt

Since I was thinking about summer travel plans, I decided to throw in a graphic sweatshirt into the mix. I also think you can style a graphic sweatshirt up or down depending on the bottoms you choose. For a casual look, pair it with denim shorts. For a dressed up outfit, wear the graphic sweatshirt with tailored shorts.

• Gauze or lightweight blouse

Think: gauzy beach shirt. I personally own a few gauzy beach shirts from Target that I swear by during the summertime. For the purpose of this capsule wardrobe, I found a neutral one from GAP that fits in with the color palette of this collection.

• Stripe button down shirt

A button-down shirt feels like a classic staple to include in a capsule wardrobe. You can find one of these shirts at most popular retailers, too. I look to Old Navy and Abercrombie for the best stripe shirts for the summertime.

Summer Capsule Wardrobe: Shorts

• Printed shorts

At Walmart, I was able to find blue and beige printed shorts to add a fun pop of color to this summer wardrobe list. The Walmart shorts are also inexpensive and are made with summer-friendly fabric.

• Denim shorts

Denim shorts are a summer must-have. I typically order myself a new pair of denim shorts from Abercrombie and Fitch in a size 10/30. I find Abercrombie and Old Navy to have the best denim shorts for someone with a smaller waist and larger hips.

• Linen shorts

Soft and comfortable linen shorts are perfect for the warm summer weather. Recently, I found an awesome pair of white linen drawstring shorts from Walmart! I absolutely love linen shorts and wear mine throughout the summer season.

• Tailored shorts

Structured shorts, or tailored shorts, are THE short style for the summer! At first, I was hesitant to try out this style because it felt too much like work wear to me. Now I believe if you style tailored shorts correctly you can wear them for a chic summer day look.

• Linen blazer

Something sleek to have in a summer capsule? A linen blazer. Blazers continue to have a huge moment right now in the fashion industry. H&M has new linen blazers for great prices. The linen blazer I styled a few ways here is from H&M for under $50.

Dresses

• Printed mini dress

With the blue accent color in mind, I have quite a few blue printed mini dresses that are ideal for a dressed up summer event. I found a few gorgeous blue and white floral printed mini dress options from Abercrombie. I love the fit of these dresses in my true size medium.

• Linen maxi dress

The other day I picked up a linen maxi dress at Walmart. I had to include it in my summer capsule wardrobe as a dress pick. Linen dresses are easy and ideal for the warm weather in the summer. The one I found at Walmart ended up as a running errands outfit for me!

Summer Capsule: Pants/Skirts

• Trousers

I found the perfect neutral trousers at Express this month. I ordered my usual size 10 and they ended up fitting like a glove! The fabric also feels stretchy and soft because it has spandex.

• Linen pants

Linen pants are a summer staple. You can find affordable linen pants from places like Abercrombie, Old Navy, and even at Walmart. I have a few linen pants in both neutral and white to mix and match with. You can see one outfit idea in this collage below where I styled white linen pants. • Printed maxi skirt

I added one of my favorite long floral maxi skirts from Abercrombie to this summer capsule because it’s THAT good. If you find a pretty printed maxi skirt to add to your summer wardrobe, you can easily style it with the one-shoulder top, neutral bodysuit, or white bodysuit. SO many outfit ideas!
