How to Style Wide Leg Trousers

Wide leg trousers are a trendy pant style that I’ve seen a lot of women wearing in 2023. Honestly, I was nervous to give this pant trend a try. I didn’t know if trousers were going to look good on me or not. I also felt like trousers reminded me of the 80s and seemed out of style. However, I have changed my opinion on wide leg trousers because I finally found the perfect pair for my body shape!

Even if you have a smaller waist and wider hips like myself, I believe you can find the right pair of trousers. Apparently after doing some research I determined my particular body shape is triangle. I’d do some research and see what your own body shape is to help find your ideal pair of wide-leg trousers!

It definitely took me some time to find my ideal pair. After a few trips to Target, I ended up trying on a pair of high-rise wide leg pants from the brand A New Day. These are the BEST wide leg pants for me! I can’t recommend them enough. If you have a chance to watch this YouTube video you will see how I style them in real life.

1. With a Neutral Tank and Blazer

Style a pair of wide leg trousers with a neutral tank top and an over sized blazer. I think this outfit can work for the office and take you into the evening for dinner. Blazers are a closet essential. The cream double-breasted blazer that I have on is a new find from Old Navy.

The structure of this blazer makes the entire look feel polished and put together. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a blazer for it to be good quality! As long as the blazer fits you nicely you can easily find one at Target or Old Navy.

2. Striped Button Down Shirt

A classic outfit idea to style wide leg trouser pants is to wear a blue striped button down shirt. If you are someone who creates a capsule wardrobe then you probably already own one of these shirts. I simply tucked in my Old Navy blue striped button down in my cream trousers for a preppy and stylish look.

3. Faux Leather Moto Jacket

If a blazer isn’t your style, might I suggest a moto jacket instead. Even though I am posting this style guide in the spring, I need to include a fall/winter outfit idea just in case someone stumbles upon this post during those seasons. Amazon has an amazing faux leather moto jacket for under $100.

The short jacket also balances out the wide-leg nature of the pants. This gorgeous faux leather moto jacket from Amazon creates a well-proportioned outfit.

4. One Shoulder Top

One-shoulder tops are still very much in style in 2023. For this next outfit idea, I am putting together a ruched crop top in a neutral beige tone with the Target trousers. I would call this a going out on the town outfit idea! The ruched top comes from Amazon for under $20 and fits me true to size if you are interested in copying this exact look.

5. Monochromatic Color Scheme

Try sticking to one color with a top and trouser look for a monochromatic outfit idea. At Target, you can purchase the same top and matching pants. I went for an all brown look with this chic matching set. For the gauze top I have on a size medium and the trousers I went down to an 8.
