It’s been such a fun process renovating and decorating the third bedroom area to transform into my home office space.
Since clearing out this third bedroom to look completely empty back in early June, I’ve been brainstorming and visualizing what I expected the room to look like. Of course, I turned to both Pinterest and Gypsy Tan for inspiration these past few weeks to fully transform this space into a chic, boho area.
1. Tribal Design Area Rug
The first item I purchased for the home office space was this black and white tribal-printed area rug at Target. Not going to lie, it hurt to spend $99 on a rug! For size reference, I bought the 7′ x 10′ to fit the room in the center.
However, I know a rug acts as a central part of any room, so I acted on this splurge right then and there. The black and white tribal area rug fit beautifully in the space when I got it home and unraveled it. Even Simba approves of this rug so much that he often sleeps on it at night. Not only does the rug feel cozy between your toes, but it adheres to my specific boho office decor look.
2. Wood Writing Desk
The next find to add to my home office was a rattan wood writing desk. I’ve been eyeing ones from Urban Outfitters and Target, but ultimately I found this one from a place called At Home up in Clearwater. My friend Sara calls this store a mix between Home Goods and Hobby Lobby which I can attest to.
Thankfully, my sister drove to meet me so we could load up this desk in her Jeep and drive it back down to St. Pete! It’s such a gem. This rattan desk was the very last one in the store, too. Upon looking online at Target I found a super close match to my desk on their site for a little over $100 which matches up with about what I paid for this desk.
The writing desk itself doesn’t take up too much space and it has two drawers for storage. Right now the drawers hold extra makeup, jewelry, and hair products that I want to keep with me in case I want to spruce myself up for Instagram stories, ha! It’s also lightweight enough to move around if I want to change up its location in the future.
One of the major selling points of this wood writing desk is the caned drawers that remind me of the more expensive desks at Urban Outfitters. At Target, the desk is part of the Minsmere Living Room Collection from Opalhouse™ which includes even more natural pieces to fill a space with.

3. Velvet Pink Swivel Chair
Another essential element in creating a space with boho office decor includes finding the right chair. Upon looking at Home Goods, I saw my ideal velvet pink swivel chair. When I saw the chair in their home decor section I flipped out! I’ve been on the hun for a pink velvet chair to add to the home office space for weeks now.

Although my chair was found at Home Goods and most Home Goods merchandise looks different from store to store, I found a bunch of similar velvet chairs like this one from Amazon. Another pink swivel chair from Everly Quinn fits a similar aesthetic to the one I found at Home Goods.
Right now I am comfortably sitting in my new chair and I could not feel happier! I’ve been excited for a plush velvet chair to add to the home office and I’m glad I could score one from Home Goods for under $100, too. The swivel aspect of my chair allows me to move around easily and the chair can also move up and down for optimal mobility. Adding just a slight touch of pink to this space makes it feel more “me” and adds a touch of necessary feminity!
4. Faux Plants and Other Accent Pieces
A boho office needs some greenery whether it’s in the form of a real or fake plant. I’ve had this faux palm potted plant for a year now and picked it up from Target for $25.
Some greenery really brings a room to life. So far my fake plant sits in the corner of the home office which I like. Any modern boho room should include some pops of green whether you choose small succulents to keep on your desk or challenge yourself to keep larger ones alive (snake plants). So far I am satisfied with my fake plants just fine!
Other accent pieces to jazz up this office space took some time to acquire. Target, once again, has some awesome home decor finds when it comes to accent artwork. These two canvas art photos are $10 each at Target.
My personal favorite is the woman’s figure outline drawing, $10. The black and white image would also look great in any home office since it’s simplistic. When I’m typing away on my laptop, I want to feel at peace and relaxed, which is why I choose to light up scented candles on my desk.
The exact candle sitting on my desk right now is Desert Flora from The Urban Collection by Chesapeake Bay Candle, $12.99. Candles are soothing for me and the smell of this one reminds me of my recent birthday trip to Savannah because it smells like the hotel we stayed at for the weekend, The Alida! Such a crazy connection.
