Fall Staples 2020 – Fall Wardrobe Staples
10 Fall Staples 2020
Hey, friends! I wanted to take a moment to highlight some standout Fall staples 2020 edition. Although this upcoming Fall season will look completely different than years past, I still want to share some style inspiration today to get us in the spirit. There are 10 fall staples to check out here and I hope at least one of them looks intriguing to you!
During the Fall season, it’s all about breaking out the boots and layering with thick knit cardigans. Don’t worry about overspending on trendy items for Fall because everything listed in today’s post runs under $100. Let’s dive into what made the cut!
Top 10 Fall Staples 2020
1. Felt Hats
One of my easy hacks for dealing with second or third-day hair? Adding a hat on top of your head! Simple as that. Felt hats are the way to go for the fall season, too. I’ve owned a wide brim fedora hat from Urban Outfitters for two years now and it was a great $44 investment.
The UO Flat Brim Felt Fedora comes in many color options, but I chose a neutral one more optimal versatility. This exact hat continues to stay a top seller as well!
2. Dumpling Bag (Trendy Bag)
I promise you’ll be seeing this “dumpling” shaped bag all over social media for fall 2020. Luckily, I’ve discovered where you can steal the look for less. The dumpling bag first came on the scene from the brand Bottega Veneta as “The Pouch” which retails for $1,450.
While searching on SHEIN, I found a close match for way less at a staggering $13. Needless to say, I added that $13 bag to my cart within the hour. I’ve been eager to style it and if you scroll down you can see how I chose to carry it for my recent photoshoot.
3. Crewneck Sweater
A great layering piece for the fall? Crewneck sweaters. I found a couple that I really like at Old Navy. The green and white crewneck sweaters at Old Navy are affordable at under $40. The green one is pictured above in the collage I made and has a soft chenille fabric. Crewneck sweaters are easy to layer because you can add a coat or sherpa jacket for more warmth depending on the weather.
4. Faux Leather Skirt
While browsing H&M last week, I ended up taking home a new $20 faux leather skirt. Faux leather will top the list as one of the trendiest materials to wear for fall 2020. I found a faux leather skirt in a cream color and can’t wait to wear it next month to a pumpkin patch with booties and a cardigan!
5. Floral Dress
Alright, so I am not one to stop wearing floral just because the seasons have changed. Florals are my thing. However, in the fall and winter, I am definitely going to stick to darker romantic florals versus bright ones to adhere to the shifting tone of the seasons.
You can see the perfect example of what I’m talking about in the styled outfit pictured below. I’m wearing a dark green floral-printed babydoll dress from Target. If you’re interested in this dress I recommend sizing down. I ended up buying my usual medium but I wish I sized down to a small for the sake of the long sleeves.
6. Wide-Leg Denim
It feels SO good knowing that skinny jeans are taking a back seat for Fall 2020. This season centers on embracing 70s flare and what better way to bring this era back to life by wearing wide-leg silhouettes. Last year, I purchased a pair of wide-leg denim pants from LOFT and I will 100% be bringing them back out this year.
I also recently bought a pair of cream high-rise wide-leg pants from Target ($25) and you can see how I styled them in this Target blog post. Put your skinny jeans aside and transition into styling wide-leg pants this Fall.
7. Over-The-Knee Boots
In the fall, boots, and shoes, in general, are my absolute weakness. Whenever I’m shopping online for new fall staples I am sure to stop and take a second look at over-the-knee boots. Styling boots for the fall can happen in two ways: the first includes wearing a flowy dress with OTK boots and the second way includes wearing leggings/skinny jeans and over-the-knee boots together.
Speaking of over-the-knee boots, I just purchased another pair from Target for this Fall season. I found my size (10) in stock and took home Universal Thread™ Lainee Heeled Scrunch Fashion Boots. Be sure to pop over to my blog post from last year where I described in detail my experience with Goodnight Macaroon Over-The-Knee Boots. I also can’t wait to wear my tan suede Marlo boots this season.

8. Open-Front Cardigan
Looking for an easy way to feel cozy during the Fall? An open-front cardigan will do just that!
I am always wearing a tank top and cardigan combo when I work from home. It’s still warm here in Florida so an open-front cardigan makes this in-between weather bearable. I found an affordable $25 cardi at Target that comes in multiple colors. Personally, I am loving the rust cardigan color the most of the selection online.
9. Sherpa Jacket
The second I spotted this cozy sherpa jacket at Old Navy I knew I had to include it in today’s round-up. Consider investing in a faux fur sherpa for fall and you won’t regret having it at the ready to cover up from October into November. It’s a great layering jacket to have.
I’d wear a crewneck sweater, a pair of denim jeans, casual ankle booties, and a flat brim hat with my sherpa jacket from Old Navy. If you want to add a sherpa moto jacket hybrid to your wardrobe this season, I’d look at the new arrivals at Abercrombie & Fitch. One of their latest vegan leather jackets just hit their online store: a brown zippered sherpa moto jacket.
10. Basic Long Sleeve Top
One final Fall staple: basic long sleeve tops. Usually I stock up on basic long sleeves at places like Old Navy and H&M. Recently, I found some great tops at Abercrombie.
A couple of my top picks from Abercrombie include a nude seamless slim top ($29) and a long-sleeve cozy wrap bodysuit. Basic long-sleeve tops are necessary for Fall, but why not find ones that feel soft and hug the body to make room for added layers? I will be buying one of the Abercrombie seamless tops for sure!
